About St Nicholas, Tullaghought
St Nicholas, Tullaghought dates from 1885. It has a simple single-cell form and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and buttressed walls.
History
The church possibly incorporates fabric of an earlier Catholic chapel dating from before 1840. It was built for W. Maher and James Brennan, reflecting the local community's prosperity following Emancipation in 1829. The interior was extensively remodelled in 1985, following earlier alterations after the Second Vatican Council.
