About Church of SS Peter and Paul, Walshestown

Church of SS Peter and Paul, Walshestown was built in 1837. It has a four-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and window tracery.

History

The church was possibly built to designs by Thomas Smith. It was renovated in 1876 by John Murray, who added the octagonal turret and removed battlements from the side walls. An elaborate monument dedicated to Rev. John Clarke stands to the east of the building.
