About Cavan Baptist Church
Cavan Baptist Church is a Baptist church in Cavan, County Cavan, a member of the Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland.
History
Cavan Baptist Church began as an evangelical fellowship meeting in a farmhouse near Killeshandra, where more than 40 people attended the first meeting on Sunday 22 March 1992. The meetings were facilitated by the pastor of Mullaghmeen Baptist Church in Co. Fermanagh, and those who came together to form the church had previously met in various locations for Bible studies and fellowship. The congregation constituted as a church in March 1993 and began meeting in the Farnham Arms Hotel in Cavan town.
A new building just off the Dublin Road in Cavan was built and opened in March 1997. The church's own history records that this building was severely vandalised over a period of about five years, and the congregation decided to sell it and relocate. A house at Corglass, Oldtown, was bought at the beginning of May 2002; the front garden was cleared to create a car park and a mobile classroom was moved on to the site, where the congregation met for the first year while the house was renovated. Work on adding a main hall began in August 2002, and the hall was completed and officially opened during the church's tenth anniversary celebrations on 29 March 2003.
