About St. Clare's Chapel, Cavan
St. Clare's Chapel, Cavan was built in 1881 in the Gothic Revival style. The church is built of sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work.
The building
The chapel formed part of the former St Joseph’s Convent, School and Orphanage complex. A first-floor balcony was provided for the nuns’ private worship and connected internally with the main convent building; the window and entrance surrounds use chamfered yellow brick.
