About Urney (Cavan)
Urney (Cavan) was built around 1815 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave, built of squared sandstone. Notable features include a four-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
History
The church is attributed to John Bowden, architect to the Board of First Fruits, but may be the work of William Elsam, who was paid for plans in 1815. It was enlarged in the mid nineteenth century by Joseph Welland, with transepts and a vestry added c.1855. A soldiers' gallery was added to the west end c.1850.
