About Castlemartyr St Anne
Castlemartyr St Anne was built in 1731. It has a five-bay nave, built of rubble limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
The building
The church comprises a bowed chancel, a north vestry with a pointed arch opening having a red brick surround and Y-tracery window, and a sacristy with a hipped slate roof and rendered chimneystack. The three-stage tower features render string courses, round-headed openings with dressed limestone imposts and keystones, and a circular opening at the third stage, while the interior retains a timber gallery, marble plaques, wall monuments, timber panelling and plasterwork. A graveyard is enclosed by cut limestone boundary walls with square-profile piers and a wrought-iron gate.
