About Ballysumaghan
Ballysumaghan was built around 1831. It has a three-bay nave, built of ashlar limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and pinnacles.
The building
This Church of Ireland church follows a cruciform plan with single-bay east and west transepts and a chancel to the south. The square-plan, three-stage bell tower stands to the north, featuring clasping buttresses on the lower stages and a crenellated parapet with octagonal pinnacles. The structure is built of squared and coursed rock-faced limestone ashlar with tooled quoins, topped by pitched slate roofs and clay ridge tiles.
