About The Nativity of Our Lady, Ballyhooly
The Nativity of Our Lady, Ballyhooly was built around 1870. It has a seven-bay nave, built of squared sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and a marble altar.
The building
The building was designed in 1870 by George Ashlin as a Gothic Revival structure facing west, comprising a seven-bay nave with side aisles, an eastern chancel, and a south-east sacristy. The interior contains a pointed arch arcade, a marble altar rail with trefoil-headed arcading, and an exposed timber scissors truss roof. Ornate cast-iron gates and railings flank the main entrance.
