About Templeport St Peter (Bawnboy)
Templeport St Peter (Bawnboy) was built in 1815 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a hall-and-tower form with a three-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a two-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
History
The church was built in 1815 with a loan from the Board of First Fruits to hold some 200 persons. It was remodelled and enlarged by Welland & Gillespie in 1860, when a single-bay chancel was added to the east. The building is situated in an unusual lakeside setting at the end of a lane.
