About St. Peter’s, Moycarkey
St. Peter’s, Moycarkey was built in 1793. It has a T-shaped plan and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and buttressed walls.
The building
The church features a dressed limestone front elevation with stepped diagonal buttresses and statue niches flanking a shallow flat-roof porch. Pointed-arch window openings include stone sills and hood-mouldings with console terminals, while the interior contains flat coffered ceilings and galleries to the rear and transepts. Rendered concrete external stairs access these galleries, and the structure retains original ashlar stonework and window tracery.
