About St Patrick’s Church, Killashee
St Patrick’s Church, Killashee dates from 1829. It has a cruciform plan and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
History
Built in 1829 by Rev. Richard Farrell, this Roman Catholic church stands on a site donated by the Royal Canal Company. It was probably originally constructed as a T-plan chapel, with the chancel added later to create the current cruciform plan. The building retains much of its early fabric and simple Gothic Revival detailing.
