About St Patrick's Church, Ballyglass
St Patrick's Church, Ballyglass was built between 1880 and 1881. It has a simple single-cell form under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
History
The church replaced a thatched chapel described by Reverend James Heaney in 1880 as too small for the congregation. It was reconstructed in 1956 to designs by Maurice Sweeney of Galway. The interior was later reordered following the liturgical reforms of the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican, featuring a stepped predella supporting the altar below the McWalters Memorial Trinity Window.
