About St Joseph’s Church, Carras
St Joseph’s Church, Carras was built between 1961 and 1962. It has a simple single-cell form under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows and a bellcote.
The building
Designed by John C. Thompson of Limerick, the church features a rectilinear plan with triangular-headed openings. The interior includes an exposed timber roof, a marble altar, and stained glass supplied in 1961 by Murphy Devitt Stained Glass Studios of Dublin. A wall monument dates from 1979.
