About Fahan Upper St Mura (Fahan)
Fahan Upper St Mura (Fahan) was built in 1820. It has a three-bay nave, built of rubble stone under a pitched artificial slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
History
Designed by John Bowden, the church was built in 1820 using a £1,000 loan from the Board of First Fruits. It was extended in 1858 by Alexander Hardy and again in 1897 by Samuel Patrick Close. Stained glass by Mayer and Co. was added in 1900, while Evie Hone contributed a window in 1949. The site includes a Celtic cross memorial to the dead of H.M.S. Laurentic, which sank in 1917.
