About St Mary’s Church, Legga
St Mary’s Church, Legga was built around 1865. It has a cruciform plan with a five-bay nave, built of squared sandstone. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and buttressed walls. It was designed by John Bourke.
The building
Carved limestone triangular and trefoil motifs appear at the gable apexes. The south porch and the transepts have pointed-arch entrances with chamfered sandstone surrounds and timber-battened doors, and the interior has a timber-panelled ceiling.
