About St Macartan's Cathedral, Monaghan

St Macartan's Cathedral, Monaghan was built between 1861 and 1892 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a five-bay nave, built of ashlar limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage tower, stained glass including a rose window, an internal gallery and mosaic work.

Notable people

J. J. McCarthy designed the cathedral in 1861, and William Hague completed it in 1892. The two architects were responsible for successive stages of the building.
