About Monaghan Methodist Church
Monaghan Methodist Church was built in 1861. It has a five-bay nave, built of rubble sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and window tracery.
The building
The freestanding Gothic church faces west and features a five-bay nave with side aisles. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with squared-and-snecked walling and diagonal buttresses. A date plaque from the earlier Primitive Wesleyan Methodist Preaching House of 1824 is incorporated into the plinth wall. The interior contains timber arched trusses on carved stone capitals and a dark stained carved timber pulpit.
