About First Monaghan Presbyterian Church

First Monaghan Presbyterian Church was built in 1827 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage tower, stained glass including a rose window, an internal gallery and pinnacles.

History

The church stands on the site of an earlier building from 1745. The current structure was built in 1827 and rebuilt between 1899 and 1902 by Bright Brothers of Portadown. It was renovated in 1911 by Thomas McElnea of Monaghan to designs by Roome & Boag of Belfast. A two-storey meetinghouse from 1827 is retained at the west end.
