About St Joseph, Ballyfoyle
St Joseph, Ballyfoyle was built between 1866 and 1872 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a five-bay nave, built of limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
History
The church stands on the site of an earlier Catholic chapel dating from before 1840. It was built under the direction of Reverend Patrick Francis Moran (1830-1911), Bishop of Ossory. The structure incorporates locally-sourced Kilkenny limestone and retains much of its original fabric, including an open timber roof construction.
