About St John The Evangelist, Raferagh
St John The Evangelist, Raferagh was built in 1861. It has a four-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar. The church stands in its own graveyard.
The building
Built in 1861 on the site of an earlier chapel, the church was altered and extended in 1912 to designs by John Joseph McDonnell of Belfast. It features a four-bay nave, a chancel with a catslide annex, and a free-standing bell tower added in the mid-twentieth century. The interior contains stained glass by Richard King, a timber gallery, and a marble altar.
