About St. John the Baptist Church, Canovee
St. John the Baptist Church, Canovee dates from 1869. It has a cruciform plan with a two-bay nave and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bellcote, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
The building
The building is a gable-fronted Roman Catholic church with single-bay transepts and a single-bay chancel. It features entrance porches on three elevations, a front date plaque, and quarry-glazed windows with cut limestone ends. Inside, a king-post truss timber ceiling spans above a carved timber gallery and a carved limestone baptismal font, while a rendered boundary wall with cast-iron gates encloses the site.
