About St Columba's College

St Columba's College was built between 1879 and 1880. It has a four-bay nave, built of sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bell tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and buttressed walls.

The building

Designed by William Butterfield in 1875 and dedicated in 1880, the Church of Ireland chapel features a rectangular plan with a four-bay nave and single-bay chancel. Constructed of banded silver-grey granite with honey-coloured sandstone dressings, it includes stepped buttresses and a projecting porch-cum-belfry. The interior retains original encaustic tiling, timber choir stalls, and stained glass attributed to Butterworth.
