About St. Columba
St. Columba was built between 1903 and 1905 in the Romanesque Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a six-bay nave, built of ashlar granite. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, mosaic work and a marble altar.
History
Designed by Ashlin & Coleman, the foundation stone was laid on 7 August 1903, three days after the election of Pope Pius X. It is apparently the first church to have his name engraved on its cornerstone. The official opening occurred on 15 October 1905, and Fr John Byrne was named as the first parish priest. The sacristy was added in 1913.
