About St. Joseph
St. Joseph was built around 1875. It has a cruciform plan, built of granite under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar. The tower was added in 1892.
History
Designed by the Dublin-Belfast partnership of O'Neill and Byrne, St Joseph was built c.1875 and consecrated in 1880. The northwest tower was added in 1892 by John L. Robinson. Side altars by Ashlin and Coleman and Edmund Sharp date from 1902. The church was placed under the care of the Carmelite order in 1983.
