About St. Brendan’s Church, Birr
St. Brendan’s Church, Birr was built between 1817 and 1824. It has a cruciform plan under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a four-stage tower with a spire, an internal gallery, crenellated parapets and buttressed walls.
History
The church was built to a design by Bernard Mullins. The east elevation includes octagonal towers capped by spires, while the interior has ribbed ceiling vaulting and a timber gallery reached by a timber staircase extending to the north, west and south.
