About Saint James's Church, Killea
Saint James's Church, Killea dates from 1832. It has a cruciform plan and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and a marble altar.
The building
This freestanding cruciform-plan Catholic church comprises a four-bay nave, single-bay transepts, a south porch, and a west chancel. The structure features roughcast rendered walls with exposed dressed sandstone buttresses and pointed-arch windows with Y-tracery. A cut limestone bellcote sits on the pitched slate roof, while the interior contains an elaborate crocketed marble reredos.
