About Saint Brigid, Anacarty
Saint Brigid, Anacarty was built in 1870. It has a cruciform plan with a three-bay nave, built of squared sandstone. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
The building
This south-facing Roman Catholic church features one-bay transepts and a flat-roofed sacristy addition c. 1965 to the north-west. The exterior combines snecked sandstone walls with alternately-coloured voussoirs, while the gable front displays segmental-headed recesses containing statues. Inside, a timber arch braced collared truss roof remains visible, and a freestanding cast-iron belfry stands to the north of the site.
