About Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel was built between 1825 and 1827. The church has rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work.
History
George Papworth designed the church on the site of a fourteenth-century original, with extensions added in 1844, 1859 and 1951. J.J. Robinson designed the reversal of the building orientation in 1951. The interior contains relics of Saint Valentine and a sixteenth-century oak figurine of Our Lady of Dublin.
