About Dublin St Werburgh St Werburgh

Dublin St Werburgh St Werburgh was built between 1715 and 1719. It has a five-bay nave, built of sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery. It was designed by Thomas Burgh.

History

St Werburgh's was founded before 1179 and was rebuilt and enlarged repeatedly. After Thomas Burgh's early-eighteenth-century church was damaged by fire in 1754, Joseph Jarrett oversaw rebuilding. The western tower and spire were removed in the nineteenth century, and Lord Edward Fitzgerald is buried in the crypt.
