About Newtowncunningham Presbyterian Church
Newtowncunningham Presbyterian Church dates from 1881. The church is built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a bellcote, an internal gallery and window tracery.
History
The church replaced an earlier meeting house built c. 1830, which itself succeeded an informal meeting house established in 1813. A date-inscribed tympanum over the doorway records the 1881 construction. The Revd. George Thompson served as the first minister of the new building. The site includes a graveyard with upstanding memorials and stands near a former school and manse.
