About Munterconnaught (Knocktemple)
Munterconnaught (Knocktemple) was built in 1831 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a single-cell plan with a three-bay nave, built of rubble sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and crenellated parapets.
History
Originally built by William Farell in 1831 as a chapel-of-ease to Lurgan parish church in Virginia, the location was chosen because crossing Lough Ramor to the parish church was too difficult in winter. The freestanding Church of Ireland building retains original box pews, a timber wainscot, and a timber communion table within its single-cell interior.
