About Lurgan (Virginia)
Lurgan (Virginia) was built in 1821. It has a three-bay nave, built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, crenellated parapets and pinnacles.
History
Major alterations were made to the church following a storm on Christmas night in 1818 when the steeple fell and destroyed the roof, and after a fire which caused major damage in 1830. The building is a good example of a Board of First Fruits church with early nineteenth century gothick style details. It stands in an axial relationship to the entrance to the hunting lodge demesne of the Marquess of Headfort.
