About Mountnugent St Bride (Kilbridecastlecor)
Mountnugent St Bride (Kilbridecastlecor) was built in 1804 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a hall-and-tower form with a two-bay nave, built of rubble stone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets. The church stands in its own graveyard.
History
The site was apparently gifted in 1804 by Oliver Nugent of Bobsgrove, now Farren Connell, to the parish of Kilbride. The church is attributed to funding by the Board of First Fruits, a body that typically supported such Gothic Revival structures. The tower bears an inscription naming Bishop Thos. L. O. Beirne and Rev. Thos. Fred. Knipe alongside the donor.
