About Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary dates from 1954. It has a cruciform plan, built of brick. Notable features include a five-stage bell tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and a marble altar.
The building
The church stands on a raised concrete platform at Walkinstown Green and features a double-height structure with a chancel to the south-west and a narthex to the north-east. Construction includes red brick walls in English garden wall bond over a chamfered granite plinth, with pitched slate roofs and a pyramidal copper roof to the bell tower. The interior contains coffered ceilings, a barrel-vaulted nave, carved timber pews, and side altars, while the exterior displays cut granite window surrounds and integral carved marble fonts.
