About Lucan St Andrew
Lucan St Andrew is a Church of Ireland church in Lucan, County Dublin. It is one of the churches in the parish of Leixlip St Mary, in the Diocese of Dublin & Glendalough.
History
St Andrew's was built in 1823 on the main street of Lucan village and is the younger of the parish's two churches. The design of the church was influenced by the architect James Gandon, who donated the land on which it was built.
Changes were made to the building over the years. In 1996, following the completion of the parish centre, work commenced on restoring the church to its former design.
Notable features
The tower contains the original clock, manufactured in 1875 by Dent & Co. of London, the firm that was also responsible for the manufacture of London's Big Ben.
