About Leixlip St Mary
Leixlip St Mary was built around 1800. It has a four-bay nave, built of rubble stone. Notable features include a four-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets.
The building
Constructed c.1800, the Church of Ireland structure probably incorporates fabric from a medieval church dating to c.1250. The five-bay rubble stone design includes a north transept with a flat-roofed porch, a lower eastern chancel, and a western tower featuring an iron clock face and an engaged northern turret. Inside, an L-shaped timber panelled gallery rests on pillars beneath a coved plaster ceiling, while the grounds contain a c.1800 limestone gateway and a graveyard with cut-stone markers.
