About Kilternan St Tiernan (Golden Ball)
Kilternan St Tiernan (Golden Ball) was built between 1824 and 1826. It has a simple single-cell form, built of squared granite under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower with an octagonal spire, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and mosaic work.
Notable features
The church was erected with support from the Board of First Fruits and Richard Wingfield, fifth Viscount Powerscourt. Its design is attributed to John Semple. The interior contains stained glass by Herbert William Bryans and Archibald Keightley Nicholson, and a crocketed reredos attributed to James Franklin Fuller. The Moore Memorial East Window was created by Heaton, Butler and Bayne in 1908.
