About Kilmacrennan St Finnian And St Mark
Kilmacrennan St Finnian And St Mark was built between 1840 and 1846. It has a four-bay nave, built of squared stone. Notable features include a three-stage bell tower with a spire and buttressed walls. It was designed by Joseph Welland.
History
The church replaced an earlier structure built c. 1630 and extended c. 1760. It was constructed by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners at a cost of £1,200.8s.9d for the Revd. A. Hastings, as recorded on a date stone. The building was almost certainly designed by Joseph Welland, who was responsible for Church of Ireland projects from 1843. Medieval fragments, possibly from a nearby Franciscan friary, are built into the exterior.
