About Guilcagh St John
Guilcagh St John was built between 1849 and 1851. It has a four-bay nave, built of squared limestone. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and buttressed walls.
Notable people
George Wilson of the parish, born in 1743, laid the foundation stone on 15 May 1849. He died on 1 June 1850 at the age of 107 and was interred in the adjoining churchyard on 7 February 1851, the day the church was consecrated. The building was designed by William Tinsley of Clonmel, Co. Tipperary.
