About Clonegam Holy Trinity (Portlaw)
Clonegam Holy Trinity (Portlaw) was built in 1851 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a four-bay nave, built of rubble sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower with a broach spire, stained-glass windows, an open timber roof and pinnacles.
The building
Designed by William Tinsley, the church features a south lean-to aisle and a lower chancel with a north vestry. The structure incorporates distinctive Hindu Gothic-style motifs and polychromatic red and yellow sandstone. Interior elements include a brass lectern dated 1909, decorative tiling from 1913, and a gateway to the south-east dating from c.1850.
