About Cloverhill St John
Cloverhill St John was built in 1856 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a three-bay nave, built of squared limestone. Notable features include a three-stage tower with a spire, stained-glass windows, window tracery and buttressed walls.
History
The design is attributed to architects Joseph and William J. Welland, with construction probably carried out by contractor William Hague senior. The church was funded by the Sanderson family of the neighbouring Cloverhill demesne, who also built estate workers' houses in the village. Its prominent siting makes it a landmark within the local area.
