About Church of the Sacred Heart, Killusty
Church of the Sacred Heart, Killusty was built in 1883 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a five-bay nave, built of squared limestone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and an internal gallery.
The building
The church features a sacristy to the south-east and porches at the east end of the main elevations. The gable-front includes a station in a canopied projection supported on a sculpted corbel, with a quatrefoil aperture at the apex. Interior elements comprise a timber scissor brace roof structure, carved round limestone columns, and a sculpted marble reredos in the apse.
