About Church of the Sacred Heart, Glengarriff
Church of the Sacred Heart, Glengarriff was built in 1902 in the Gothic Revival style. It has a cruciform plan with a four-bay nave, built of squared sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, a bellcote and buttressed walls.
The building
The church has single-bay transepts and a chancel, together with entrance porches and a sacristy. Its ridge is finished with decorative tiles, and the pointed doorways contain double timber doors fitted with cast-iron strap hinges.
