About Church of the Assumption, Tullamore

The Church of the Assumption, Tullamore was rebuilt between 1984 and 1986 after the earlier church was destroyed by fire in 1983; its Chapel Street front and spire were retained.

History

The earlier church was built between 1898 and 1906 to designs begun by William Hague and completed after his death by Thomas Francis McNamara. Edward N. Smith and Partners designed the replacement, which was reoriented to face Harbour Street.

Notable features

The interior is framed by engineered laminated-pine crucks made by William Pitcher and Company of Ballyjamesduff. It includes stained glass made in 1927 and 1928 by Harry Clarke and reclaimed from Rathfarnham Castle, alongside glass created in 1986 by George Stephen Walsh.
