About Church of Our Lady, Killmurry
Church of Our Lady, Killmurry was built in 1886. It has a simple single-cell form and rendered walls under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and lancet windows.
The building
Located in north Co. Mayo, the four-bay double-height church features a single-bay flat-roofed porch on the north front, Celtic Cross finials at the gable apexes, and an exposed strutted collared timber roof. The interior was improved in 1916 to a design by William Henry Byrne and Son of Dublin, and the sanctuary was later reordered. The site succeeds a nearby chapel dating to 1785.
