About Cashel St John Baptist & St Patrick's Rock

Cashel St John Baptist & St Patrick's Rock was built in 1784. It has a four-bay nave, built of limestone under a hipped slate roof. Notable features include stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and an organ.

The building

The cathedral stands on the site of a medieval parish church, with its boundary wall partly formed from the medieval town wall. The three-stage spired clock steeple was added in 1812, attributed to Vitruvius Morrison. The chancel was remodelled in an Italian Romanesque style by William Atkins, and the organ is by Samuel Green. The building features a composite monument on its front wall combining medieval plaques with later scroll details.
