About Ballycastle St John
Ballycastle St John was built between 1826 and 1827. It has a simple single-cell form under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, crenellated parapets, pinnacles and lancet windows.
The building
This Church of Ireland structure was erected with financial support from the Board of First Fruits. It features a standardised nave-with-entrance tower plan aligned on a liturgically-correct axis. The exterior displays Georgian Gothic attributes, including pointed openings and a slender tower with pinnacles. The east end is defined by a Rose Window with spider web glazing bars, while the interior retains contemporary joinery and a carved timber communion railing.
