About Tydavnet St Davnet (Bellanode)
Tydavnet St Davnet (Bellanode) was built between 1754 and 1755. It has a four-bay nave, built of rubble sandstone under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, stained-glass windows, an internal gallery and crenellated parapets. The church stands in its own graveyard.
The building
This Church of Ireland church was built 1754-5, enlarged in 1804 and 1830, and refurbished in 1867 by Henry Sharpe to designs by Welland & Gillespie. The T-plan structure features a four-bay nave, later transepts, and a three-stage tower with a clock face in memory of W.H. Wood-Wright. Interior details include a barrel-vaulted timber ceiling, a west gallery on Tuscan columns, and stained-glass windows.
