About St Oliver Plunkett & Irish Martyrs Church, Glenconnor

St Oliver Plunkett & Irish Martyrs Church, Glenconnor is a Roman Catholic parish church in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. It is part of the Waterford and Lismore Diocese.

History

The parish was founded on the First Sunday of Advent, 1983, drawing its first community from the parishes of St Mary's Irishtown, SS Peter and Paul's and Powerstown. The first Masses were celebrated at St Oliver's Primary School on Heywood Road, and the community later gathered at a converted sports complex in Elm Park which became the parish centre.

The church building was constructed in the mid-1990s and was solemnly blessed on 1 December 1996, the feast day of St Oliver Plunkett. The parish marked its thirtieth anniversary in 2013.
