About St. Nicholas
St. Nicholas was built around 1860. The church is built of ashlar granite under a pitched slate roof. Notable features include a three-stage tower, an internal gallery, an open timber roof and crenellated parapets. It was designed by John Murray.
History
St Nicholas was designed by John Murray and built c. 1860. The church was enlarged in 1904 with the addition of a south transept and tower, and again in 1937 with a north transept and Chapel of Adoration, works attributed to W.H. Byrne and Son. The five lancet windows at the east end were a gift from the Dundalk Total Abstinence Society and are by Messrs. Casey of Dublin.
